Free Stuff – the Business Owner’s Guide to Giving Away Free Stuff
Posted in Free Stuff, on February 9, 2007

It is human for the word free to make a mental bulb go bling! It is a time honored tradition in marketing to offer something free to obtain bigger business benefits. Often many companies will provide free stuff as a marketing strategy and it has been observed that anything that is easily obtained isn’t respected. So as a business owner it is very important for you to remember that you have to plan what you want to give away as free stuff without giving away the bank. It is important for you to value your own service before expecting it of others. Your attitude in marketing can cause the freebie seeker to be introduced to a professional and valuable marketplace and to turn the seeker into a buyer or referrer.

Some tips for good internet marketing ad offering freebies for promotion:

  • Offer freebies but within a certain limit and make sure that you budget the offer in advance. It is very easy to get carried away with the competitor’s offers on the Net.
  • It is important for the prospective client to assume that you are giving away something of real value, inspiring this confidence will result in an increment in sales. Be realistic and use appropriate wording. For example if you are selling x item. Publicize with something like:  Try now for free and buy later or Limited Offer for first 25 customers. This provides an incentive to buy as the client feels they are getting an exclusive offer.
  • A special page dedicated to the free stuff you are giving way will help surfers and search engines to have immediate access to what they are looking for and you will be able to easily gauge the influx of clients and the success of the product line.
  • Invest in a list management or auto responder software. These are inexpensive tools that not only give your business, however small, a professional image but also help you keep track of the people who sign up by exposing them to your products over time or for follow-ups. These are gaining fast popularity with mailing lists, newsletters and email marketing.
  • If not entirely free offer a discount or club two products for the “value of one”. For example, you have one fast selling product and a slow selling one which you are thinking of putting into clearance or giving away for free, club them together into one great sounding offer and make the client feel they are getting two for the price of one.
  • Branding the free stuff with your company logo is also a sure-fire method to get your product noticed.
  • Organizing sweepstakes or contests is also a wonderful way to encourage people to get educated about your premium products and though organizing something like this would require legal advice this is a fun way to attract more site traffic.
  • Find things with PLRs that is Private Label Rights. These are products that sell you a license to redistribute the products to others without claiming their copyright over it. You can add your own name, business logo and all other branding rights are sold to you and you can use these as freebies or add them as a bonus to buys.

Though free stuff may sound like a genius marketing tactic it can be a nightmare if not used correctly.
